Tamica Herod & The Harbour Street Band

Tamica Herod – Lead Singer

Tamica recently joined the South Georgian Bay music community after a number of years as a lead/backing vocalist and percussionist in Muskoka, Niagara, Hamilton and Barrie areas. She aspires to translating a rootsy, soulful sound and to keeping the blues alive. You may have caught one of her performances with her band “Tamica & the Boyz” comprised of Carl Rabinowitz and Steve Chreptak (the Warm Up Band rhythm section for Eugene Smith) and the up and coming Dylan Burchell on lead guitar and vocals.

Tamica works with a number of emerging artists including Gina Horswood, Dani Strong and as well as veteran Sean Cotton. She has been a feature performer at the Wasaga Beach Blues Festival (2015 and 2016); the Collingwood Jazz and Blues at the Station (2015 & season opener June 30, 2016); the Blues at the Mews with the Groove Project; the Etwell Concert Series Women’s Blues Review with Hutchinson and Cheryl Lescom; Muskoka Sound Festival; the Griffin Sessions; the Northern Blues Review; the Canal Banks Shuffle; the Niagara Grape and Wine Festival; the Niagara Blues in the Park Sessions and various Hunters Bay Radio productions and host of “The Blues is My Business”, a weekly blues radio show on Hunter’s Bay Radio. Additionally, Tamica is now fronting the newly formed “Harbour Street Band” featuring Gerry Markman, Carl Rabinowitz and Dave Breckels weekly Thursday night series.

“Tamica Herod, aka Ginger, is less about her red hair, and more about Tamica Herod’s Blues. The blues of the red headed stepchild, the soul on fire. In the tradition of red headed chanteuses who sang before her, Tamica’s Janis Joplin comes with a side order of Bessie Smith, and her Bonnie Raitt comes with a dash of Etta James” – Sean Cotton

“Versatility is Tamica’s middle name. Blues, R+B, Funk, Soul and Rock and Roll hits from yesterday and today, she delivers them all at 150%…  a force to be reckoned with!” – Steve Grisbrook

Gerry Markman – Lead Guitar & Vocals

Gerry Markman’s bluesy, jazz-infused guitar playing is legendary among everyone from world-renowned musicians to local partygoers. Whether he’s fronting a band or driving one from the side of a bandstand, playing solo or laying down tracks for a recording, Gerry delivers big-time. Known for his smokin’ soloing and gritty lead vocals, Gerry blows music lovers away with his big sound and his deadly feel for the groove. His many credits include The Max Band, Cameo Blues Band, The Lincolns, Malcolm Tomlinson, The Ruanne’s House Band, Curley Bridges, Chuck Jackson & The All-Stars, and local favourites, The Sensations.

Carl Rabinowitz (bass, vocals)

Carl picked up guitar & bass when the “British Invasion” took North America by storm. He played trumpet & French horn in school orchestras & bands, earned a degree in music from Columbia University and toured the eastern US & Canada with various pop, rock & R&B groups. Carl’s bass and vocals were integral to the unique sound of the Canadian cult favourite group, Eugene Smith & the Warm-Up Band. He was heard on the band’s album, “Warmin’ Up” and the two singles from it that received nationwide radio airplay. Carl has shared the stage with the likes of The Beach Boys, The Sugar Hill Gang, Long John Baldry and Peter Tosh at venues as prestigious as the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and the Ontario Place Forum in Toronto. Carl freelances in the Barrie area on bass & guitar & has played with most of the area’s musicians.
