Rob Elder Trio
Oct 1 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Owen Sound’s Rob Elder caught the music bug as a kid on the family farm where classic country & western songs, the Beach Boys, and Bob Seeger were the sound track to barn chores. Back then, picking up a guitar was an easy way to wind down at the end of a long day. Turned to music, his farm boy’s work ethic led to quick growth and an early creative blossoming, his festival debut at the age of 20, and the release of two self produced albums shortly afterwards.

Eventually, Rob moved to Toronto where he gigged every weekend and hosted an open mic for two and a half years. All that playing and networking exposed him to a world of musicians and sounds well beyond his parents record collection. Those influences fused into a style that playfully mixes blue-eyed soul, slick guitar, and crooning country rhythms and serves them with a voice that surfs from solid depths to groovy falsetto highs.

By his mid-twenties, Rob was chasing the Canadian dream. He got married, had two kids, and was advancing in a straight-laced career while gigging tirelessly in Toronto. There wasn’t much time for recording back then and  Rob and his wife knew that they didn’t want to raise children in the city.  So in 2012 they moved back to Grey County where a vibrant musical community welcomed them wholeheartedly. Rob put together a band, started mentoring younger musicians through the Georgian Bay Folk Society, and – as  always – filled every available moment with music. Now with the release of ‘Changer‘ 12 years after his sophomore record, Rob self-identifies as a re-emerging artist. But make no mistake, his musical growth has never faltered and his roots have only dug deeper in the intervening years.

2018’s ‘Changer’ shows off how much Rob has grown and what he’s learned along the way. Where his first two albums ploughed popular themes of young love and heartbreak, Changer explores more mature themes of social unrest and inequality, solidarity, and the deep love that carries a relationship decades on.  Don’t think that serious themes make the music less fun, though. With thoughtful lyrics and catchy melodies, Changer proves that Rob Elder still knows how to get audiences dancing.

The Tucson Choir Boys were formed in 2004 as a side project by two members of Loco Zydeco, one of Canada’s premier Zydeco bands.
Featuring Dave the Cat (lead guitar & lead vocals) and Sameday Ray (acoustic guitar & vocals,) they have since been wowing audiences across Ontario with their fiery brand of acoustic and semi-acoustic Rockabilly, Roots and the Blues. In 2008, TCB joined forces with Canadian Blues Legend and at the time label mate, Cheryl Lescom. Together, in 2009 they released Cheryl Lescom & the Tucson Choir Boys – a mix of acoustic Blues, Roots & Pop – to critical acclaim. In 2010, fellow Loco Zydeco members Les Graham (acoustic bass & vocals) and Kristine KK Walsh (rubboard & percussion) began performing with the Tucson Choir Boys and, along with Kitchener-based acoustic guitar wizard Robert Reid, have formed what has affectionately become known as the Tucson Choir Boys Orchestra. They released their debut, seven song EP, simply called Tucson Choir Boys, in November, 2016 with Squirrel Head Music. Both the Tucson Choir Boys and the Tucson Choir Boys Orchestra continue to record and perform with Cheryl Lescom and released their second full length album together in 2015, on Busted Flat Records.

Dylan Wickens & The Grand Naturals
Nov 19 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

DYLAN WICKENS & THE GRAND NATURALS

True to the spirit of power trios of the sixties, Dylan Wickens & The Grand Naturals immediately grab the listener by the ears with their unapologetic take on the blues, by choosing to colour outside the lines with fuzzed up guitars and bass and melodic, hook-heavy vocal lines. Raw, real, modern and traditional; it’s that paradox which defines the sound of these three world- class musicians (Dylan Wickens, Dennis Napper, Mike Rajna).  The sophomore release, Hi Lo-Fi (2016) spent much of 2016 and 2017 in the Roots Music Charts and earned the group tours throughout Canada.  Their debut recording Tattoo Black was released in 2010 to critical acclaim and extensive airplay on commercial and campus radio, CBC, Stingray and specialty blues programs, quickly establishing themselves as one of the most original and exciting bands in the genre.  Wickens’ guitar work transitions between visceral stinging slide and soulful blues/rock with the combination of the two helping to define the band’s sound as both raw and real but contemplative, while his vocals are gritty and fervent with a “Clapton like growl and urgency” (Blinded By Sound). As a songwriter, Wickens composes well crafted and meaningful songs that often have a melodic twist at the end – a nod to the freestyle playing of 60s power trios.

Little Magic Sam Band
Nov 26 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Fusing blues, soul, and pop, Little Magic Sam brings a unique and diverse sound to the scene. A talented lyricist, his songs reveal emotional complexity not expected from a man of his generation. His stage presence captivates audiences young and old, as he pours his heart and soul into each note on his guitar.

When the world gets down on Little Magic Sam, he gets down on a Les Paul. Hailing from St.Thomas, ON, Sam Taylor is a born entertainer with a penchant for raw blues music, and lyrics that bely someone much older than his 27 years. With an enormous stage presence, it comes as no surprise that this multi-talented singer/songwriter has been performing internationally since the age of 7.

After graduating from Fanshawe College with a diploma in Music Industry Arts, Sam headed into EMAC Studios with producer Moe Berg (of Pursuit of Happiness) on two original songs; Thought of Leaving and Loaded Gun, both of which received airplay across Southern Ontario. Loaded Gun has also been featured in the tv shows Haven, Cracked, and Degrassi. Sam’s versatile and honest songwriting gives his music the emotional edge that sets him apart as a talented up and comer. His songwriting can be heard on his collaborations with other Canadian recording artists, the most notable being Chad Price. He has also shared the stage with Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones), Gordon Lightfoot, and Whitehorse.

Little Magic Sam was thrilled to get the opportunity to record what would become his debut E.P. at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, TN. Look for Little Magic Sam’s new E.P. on all major music platforms, CD and limited edition vinyl as of February 21st, 2019.

“Sam is a unique artist who digs deep into the Blues and into the listener’s emotions. i can’t say enough about my admiration for his music” – Robbie Lane , Zoomer Radio
